When Kanye West challenged 50 Cent to sell more albums than him, 50 did a spit-take. “We’re not even in the same universe,” he responded before adding, “If he sells more records than me, I’ll retire.” What he was really thinking was, “Kanye is a little fag, Uncle Tom that would rather drink milk with hipsters than get real on the streets with guns and things of this nature (if you will). And that shit ain’t hip hop.”
This is more than just a personal feud. It signifies a huge split in the rap community. “Real-deal, true –blue, don’t know any white people” rap VS “I kind of dig white people and what else is out there?” rap. Nowhere is this split clearer than the world of pants.
On the first team, you have people like Jay Z saying “I can’t wear skinny jeans because my nuts don’t fit” and Thug Slaughter Force kicking the shit out of a dude in tight pants because he must be a homo…
And on the other side, you have wigger-lovers like Kanye.
Judging by record sales, it seems the Kanye side is winning. Everyone knows it and wants a piece because, at the end of the day, all most rappers care about is money. The Game is talking about Kanye’s Jesus pieces and saying he loves when his kids have “that Kanye smile” and now even 50 has crossed over to the skinny pants side. And I’m not talking about hiring white people like Justin Timberlake (sorry but embedding disabled). That’s too easy. Go a bit deeper. Hear that? It’s a rip-off of Ratatatat’s noodling.
