I agree w/King ERk, the “A” is now a dying cess-pool that acts like it is the shit. Mayor Kahreem Abdul-whatthafuckevah has made it a point to embrace homosexuality displays publicly and continue to slow whitey down. Hell, I remember when you could go downtown after dark without fearing for your life. There was a great music scene with old haunts like the Cavern, Metroplex, 688, Club Anytime, and the Buckhead Saloon..oh yeah, and the Notorious-Crystal Palace-my first real nightclub experience was had here yet this same, virginal outing ended with a bang as I got to witness (upon leaving the CP around 8am) an “Authentic”, A-Town Shoot-out right there in the parking lot!!!

These days, I’ve done what most Atlanta natives have done and moved out, way out of the reaches of that melting pot of cultural placenta. All the northern suburban shopping areas that once were the place to see and be seen have been transformed into Seoul, Korea and by Mexicanos del mucho este ice. I urge folks to think about what it is that keeps them living where they are living and they usually have to get back to me on that.

I have lived all over the U.S. Most of my time has been spent in Atlanta since 1990. The things made Atlanta awesome have been systematically been eradicated by the locate and state government. Atlanta had an amazing underground scene for music and nightlife. In an attempt to make Midtown more yuppie friendly, Mayor Shirley Franklin and her cohorts made a petition to shut down Atlanta’s nightlife by 3 am. Previously most venues were open until 4 am (a few such as BackStreet, which is now a parking lot, were open 24 hours). This was the beginning of the end for Atlanta. Cool underground spots became fewer and fewer as the yuppies started to take over. Now Atlanta is a husk of its former self.

It is still relatively cheap to live here, but unless you are planning to settle down and breed there is not much left to do here. I intend to sell my house and move once my girlfriend finishes school next year. I am not saying the grass is greener anywhere else, but Atlanta lacks the things I want… decent mass transit, street life, night life, lots of good food (unless you like BBQ) and cultural variety.

Yea, I am from Decatur and it’s all pretty much true. ATL is dirty as fuck but I always have a good time there!
