The 8-season-old quip that “more people vote for American Idol than in Presidential Elections” isn’t technically true: The 2008 election had 122,394,724 unique voters, whereas Wednesday’s American Idol finale received just under 100 million not-necessarily-uniques.
Despite this deficiency in participation, the American Idol phenomenon is still breathtakingly vast, and is more than worthy of our study and attention. With regard to popularity, American Idol makes Twitter look like Friendster; there exists no better tool with which to measure the progress, direction, and current state of mainstream American consciousness.
For example, in 2005, when contestant Anwar Robinson’s mother was shown sitting in the second row wearing a big-ass burqa, the pretty-damn-popular-and-talented contender was voted off the very next week. Sound about right?
Well, we’ve made some “progress” in the last four years, so the same thing might not happen to a muslim in 2009 – or maybe it would. One thing’s for certain though, as was re-evidenced by a tremendous American Idol upset that took place on Wednesday night: America still hates fags.
Now, I personally can’t watch American Idol – my balls are so shriveled from washing dishes in my wife’s apron that my endocrine system simply can’t sustain further emasculation – just seeing Ryan Seacrest would cause me to require testosterone therapy, and that shit ain’t on my Aetna.
Ironically however, my much BLACKER and more MANLY cousins from Long Island do watch American idol, and they hipped me out to the recent upset while we were eating dinner tonight. For all of you who were like me, too cool to care, let me share with you what the rest of the country already knows:
1. A guy called Adam Lambert is the most talented contestant that has ever been on American Idol.
2. He won every immunity challenge in landslides and even Simon (popular “mean” judge) loved him to gay death.
3. He is openly gay but doesn’t “flaunt it” – i.e. he “acts pretty straight on the show” (which also tells me he’s intelligent and wants to win)
4. In the past few months however, pictures of him kissing guys have flooded the Internet.
5. In the last few weeks of the competition, the Christian Right mounted a campaign to make sure that America knew he was a fag and that they would go to hell if they voted for him.
6. On Wednesday night, he lost to some no-talent jerkoff as a result of this Christian campaign and America’s hatred of the gays.
Findings:
Wow: The Christian right cares enough about who wins an ENTERTAINMENT pageant to mount a smear campaign as if it were Politics.
Wow: America will vote for a black president, but it won’t even tolerate a gay American Idol.
Well, we all knew that America still hates gays, no question about it. Can you think of one openly gay leading male Movie Star in Hollywood?
Make all the jokes you want about the queers–hell knows I do–but at the end of the day, all rational people should want gays to have the same right to be miserable as any other worthless one of us.
What makes me angriest about this whole clusterfuck is that my World Champion Sufferer Blacks are the group that hates gays the most per capita. (Angry Southern Whites hate them with the most FORCE, but they’ll always be the the Chinese to Hating’s Figure Skating – You’re not gonna beat them at that shit. What I’m saying is that The Blacks hate The Gays the most as a measure of percentage of the subgroup.)
Now here’s the irony: I had to CULL the above American Idol synopsis from my cousins’ FORCED black minstrel english – Oh believe me, they can speak the QUEEN’s English when they want to – like at a Job Interview – but in their free time, choose to speak in this wu-tang bullshit that at this point, with a black president in the whitehouse, is just fucking pretentious.
It’s absolutely symbolic that their retarded and illiterate way of speaking has gone from being the brunt of jokes and discrimination to decades later being CELEBRATED as the defining lingua franca of popular culture – and in *this* language, they went on to dis the gays as they always do. My cousins curse and authentically hate these people who aren’t even “fronting.” They really do want to deny these people rights–these people who as we once were, are at the stage of trying to fight against their Jim Crow laws.
Well, that’s the cycle of revolution – The first niggers get what they want, and then push the next niggers to the back of the bus. Is there any more scathing and despicable metaphor than Martin Luther King’s daughter, Dr. Bernice Albertine King, being an outspoken anti-gay activist? Is that literally Dr. King’s legacy? Acquire, assimilate, and forget.
It’s amazing to see black people still bitching and moaning and whining like it’s 1957. Or even 1987. On blogs, on Twitter, on television- talking about how far we have to go, and who’s still keeping us down. Maybe so, but open your fuckin eyes and see that there are new niggers who need the spotlight way more than we do; there are some new niggers who need our help. We’ve won the right to sit anywhere on the bus – it’s time for us to CHOOSE the back seat, and let these niggers ride.

I think a big reason that the fundies were able to successfully manipulate the result of American Idol is that it’s mostly ignorant retards who watch that show. I mean I enjoy the first episode or whatever where they put some no-talent jerkoffs through some cognitive dissonance therapy but after that I can’t watch. This article is full of assumptions that don’t hold water. The gays have been pointing their finger at Black Americans for years. They aren’t asking us to join us in their struggle–they are making a demand that we do. Do you not see the difference? Aside from A. Philip Randolph and a few others, gays were not a big part of our civil rights struggle. It’s no wonder that many Afro-Americans have passed on the “invitation” to join in the battle for recognition of gay rights.
Here’s a reality check: Many Black Americans still face discrimination in housing, in lending from banks, in education and housing, in employment, and in the criminal justice system. Can’t gays see that we haven’t yet fulfilled our own agenda, and therefore are not wont to join in their struggle?
It’s not a question of hatred, bias or “homophobia.” We are otherwise engaged.
BTW, the appellation “blognigger” is stupid, and it undermines the content of this article and is a slap in the face to us all.

There are ten specific commandments in the Book of Exodus, and then about 1000 instructions against eating certain animals, etc.
I cited a handful of biblical passages which explicitly condemn homosexuality. Did you miss the quotes from Corinthians, Romans, and Leviticus which, in no uncertain terms or in any sort of phrasing that could possibly be construed as symbolic, forbid man-on-man action, or did you merely ignore them in order to buttress some half-baked non-point?
Jesus spouts off against blaspheming the Holy Spirit and tons of other sins, so the analogy to the California Penal Code is an apt one. Saying that the Ten Commandments outline the only things the Bible forbids is to say something stupid…something easily disproved.

It has a little bit of everything for every agenda. Wright has his agenda, Ted haggard has his and on and on.
When it comes down to it, all races are equally gay and anti-gay. So, who really cares? Let me give it to yall “straight” – no pun intended. I am a white gay man who grew up in and lives in Detroit, which is the blackest city in the country. I can tell you that blacks are by far the most viciously homophobic people in this country. I won’t go into details, but I have experienced such terrifying homophobia here that if it were racism yall would be running straight to the NAACP. I have, in fact, witnessed a gay man get shot outside a gay bar on 7 mile just for being gay. I have no reason to exaggerate the level of bigotry because it is simply true.
Does this offend my PC sensibilities? Absolutely. According to the Disney-fied narrative of civil rights that we are force fed, blacks are noble sufferers, and therefore lack the power to oppress others. Also, blacks HATE to be called bigots. It simply does not occur to many black people that they are capable of discrimination. This is because discrimination is the primary sin against THEM. Many blacks assume they have the moral high ground because of this.
What gets me the most is black people who get mad that gays dare ask for “civil rights.” Black people act like they own civil rights. Pick up a goddamn history book. There have been countless civil rights movements throughout history that have nothing to do with black people. We are not all trying to copy off you.
One last thing: I am sorry to all the millions of blacks out there who are not at all homophobic. Trust me, I don’t mean to lump everyone together. Its just hard not to sometimes.

Seeing the gay people on TV singing We Shall Overcome about the Prop 8 is sooo corny. There are obviously some gays that think marriage is a big deal. But most gays don’t care that much. I don’t want to get married and I don’t know any gay guys that do. Marriage just seems pointless to me. What you are seeing on TV is like a small fraction of politically active gays.
Also you can blame the Prop 8 thing more on the Mormons than on blacks. The media created this whole blacks vs. gays thing, but it was the Mormons who funded and spearheaded the whole thing.
The way I think about it – blacks tend to be more upfront about their homophobia. White people are a little more polite on the surface but then they donate money to anti-gay stuff.

First of all – the disrespect towards religion that many gay people have demonstrated is shameful. Keep in mind, though, that this is on TV. The vast majority of gay people live completely ordinary, apolitical lives – and yes, many of them do go to church or at least have religious beliefs.
