For all their talk about multiculturalism, Canadians are remarkably anti-Semitic, anti-francophone, and bigoted.

Canada’s will be a brief death. With a population divided along ethnocultural lines, Canada will be “taken” in increments. Canadians will not even realize they are being decimated by their own blindness. On population block at a time, Canada will tumble into totalitarianism.

Not that one second-rate nation-state more or less makes much of a difference to anybody. Canada will go down in history as the country that realized the LEAST of its potential. That’s what happens when big countries are run by small people…

HRCs in Canada seem to have little interest in defending our constitutional rights and freedoms – their famous cases are all ludicrous, such as the time they fined a restaraunt owner for kicking a medical pot smoker out of his establishment (the guy was allowed to smoke pot in the parking lot; the owner simply didn’t want him smoking it at the door, in front of families with children).

The fact that CHRC Dean Steacy doesn’t seem to have read the Charter doesn’t surprise me at all.

BTW, America draws the line at hate speech even more starkly in some States than we could dream of doing in Canada.

The justice system in Canada does follow the British one, where the rule is “innocent until proven guilty,” not what you wrote. You’re thinking of the Napoleonic code (practised in Quebec, Louisiana and of course, France). The problem with Canada’s Human Rights Tribunals is that they’re tribunals, not courts, so they can ignore such little niceties as procedural fairness, “innocent until proven guilty,” etc. But the Canadian justice system follows the same common-law principles that the U.S. system does (they’re both descended from the British system, after all, where theses ideas originated).

One of the reasons we want the HRCs and HRTs gone is because they have no built-in procedural safeguards — they can just go apeshit on your ass if they wish, causing untold damage to defendants in the process.

And no, Canadian Supreme Court Justices do not wear powdered wigs. Outmoded concept. They still do it in Britain and Australia and a number of other Commonwealth countries, however.
