Saw these guys play at The Studio the other day and they DESTROYED. Holy fuck what an amazing band. Easily the best thing I’ve seen in the past year. They sound like the Germs meets Black Lips but more hardcore and more fun.

I shot the photo you used of Cerebral Ballzy. My name is Jazmin-Venus Soto, could you please give me a photo credit for the image you used? I have legal rights to the image and releases so I hope this won’t be an issue. If it is then you really should take the post down, given you don’t have permission to use the photo, but I don’t think that’s necessary (haha) especially given the warm reception evident in the comments section! Also, you might want to note that CB is actually missing its two guitarists, Jason and Mason, in that photo. It actually features one of their homies, the red-headed kid, and Jahphet, the drummer of the Deathset in front on the cellphone.

I was going to get really nasty, like say shit about how fake these guys look, and how I would never listen to a band that looks like this if they look like it in 2008. I was going to come in here and call any guy a fag if they liked this. I was going to tear apart the comparison to The Germs because The Germs are The Germs. I was going to make fun of the band because they probably heard their drug-addled uncle listening to it and wanted to be as cool as he is. But as I scrolled down and saw everyone else on the same page as I, I relaxed. Good post.

this band is not even the guys in that picture….the only three in the band are the three in the back on the right the red head isn’t in a band (not that i know of)….and the dude up front is the drummer of death set.
maybe the haters could suggest someone who is doing what they do better right now and maybe a group who isnt 100 or 80% white?
it kind of means something that the majority of the group are brown kids….it also means something that these are musicians….not pick up the instrument for this band, learn two/three chord punks. (not that theres ANYTHING wrong with that…but, the critique should be different)
their shows are groundbreaking given the state of things. i’ve seen the black lips perform and their performances and music just don’t inspire the same reactions.

aint no coincidence brown black asian people are underrepresented in this and many many other genres in and outside of music… its not cuz they suck thats for sure.
cerebral ballzy is quite good, might not be your type of music, but don’t call it something its not. these kids are not hipsters, and if they and there music is then please tell me what you define as hipster and what you define as punk and go on to tell me what you define as hardcore, because the kind of show they put on just isnt getting done and the content of their music is comparable to the black comedy, humor punk that was so cherished decades ago.
and as for the new museum, so its part of the bullshit myriad of institutions that commodify art and tell the greater public what is and isnt acceptable in art, BUT how many other bands are playing at the museums? since when do museums create spaces for music, of any kind, popular or not?
