David Choe is a true Bud of ours. He’s also easy accurately to draw. He has the impatience of a lamb and creates some of the most ourtrageoussss sentences and art I have ever had the pleasure to be addicted to. So what has he gone and done now to increase our love connection to him. Oh.. he is the subject of Harry Kim’s film DIRTY HANDS which stars David Choe himself. Now , usually I find inflated self-importance in people pathetic and the most succulent Achilles’ heel to fuck with but in David’s case it is all forgivable because he thinks of himself as a piece of garbage. Ergo, he becomes more radically awesome to the maxi pad!

The following is take from a description of DIRTY HANDS:
The film, “dirty hands”, was made by a dude named harry Kim. Harry is Dave’s childhood friend, and full time travel companion. I think harry did a great job with this project. For 7 years harry followed Dave around with a camera. Sometimes he knows he is being filmed, and sometimes not. We get to see his natural reaction to amazing, scary, emotional, and super personal moments in the dude’s life. Being an artist, for the most part, is about making art. For Dave, I think, it’s only a piece of the recipe. For him there needs to be travel, struggle, adventure, hardship, sex, blood, crime, heartbreak, and of course, humor. Dave and the ups and downs in his life are as much a part of the artworks, as the canvas and paper he covers. He is dramatic, self indulgent, self destructive, and maybe slightly genius, in the way he embraces the world with each new adventure.”

His drawings from jail time remind me of the drawings i did when i was trapped in a psychiatric ward over the summer. Sadly i don’t have them anymore because my mother burned them… :[ Did he take those drawings down from his site? Bumtown.
