To all you New York media types scoffing at his art and calling him a rich kid:
You are not a New Yorker and you never will be and that drives you nuts because you moved here to be part of something but got rejected because you are a fucking pussy. You bloggers and magazine journalists have devoted your lives to talking about “What’s Hot” in the big city and you are all fucking homo nerds and fat spinsters who took Gender & Film in college and have been ignored by the city you thought would embrace you.
Nobody gives a fuck what you think of Dash’s art and how “inconsistent” it is. You fucking losers. What do you have to show for your time here? You did a blog and you worked at a PR firm and you wrote a magazine article once. They say those who can’t Do, Teach but you can’t even teach. You just talk about people that Do. Where’s your art? Where’s your anything?
Dash grew up with no family and raised himself from the age of 13. I’d love to see you try that for 6 months at that age you fucking wimps. You’ve never been in a fistfight. You’ve never fucked a prostitute. You’ve never been to jail. You’ve never run from the NYPD in the middle of the night. You talk about kicking drugs from a position of authority but all you know is smoking pot and watching Saturday Night Live. Fuck you. How dare you talk about death. You don’t even know how to live.

  2. S. Says:

Dash was like the Lower East Side’s Sprite Animal, to say that this city won’t be the same without him is a missive understatement. Rest in peace, you will be missed.

  9. Cap'n Glitterfuzz Says:

I’ve bashed Snow in hollow forums. But hey, I envy his ability to utilize on his own knot fabric, and it’s easy to expel hatred towards something you’re not. I’ve no praise for his work, but his persona is irreplaceable. Sorry for the loss, fellahs.

  10. Atheist Says:

  15. you.fux. Says:

It must really fucking suck to live in New York and have to constantly try to convince yourself and everyone else that it’s so much more fucking awesome and exclusive than where they live.

  16. Dork Says:

The comments on most of the stories are hideous. The envy is palpable.

  17. blam Says:

Right, because being a druggy waste of life and having your “art” be setting shit on fire, jerking off, and being an asshole is THE REAL NEW YORK.

  18. HOMO the unofficial Says:

can these comments please be turned off?

  19. Anonymous Says:

New York vibe articles like these scream of “loners”. All the kids that don’t have an identity trying to copy someone elses.

“ignored by the city you thought would embrace you” reads “ignored by the cool kids”. Dash was a cool kid, Gavin just wanted to fit in with him and apparently did.

None the less, this article is highschool. Dash was a good artist and lived fast – the end.

…someone lost their life, have some fucking respect. there’s a girl without a father, a woman without a lover, one less member of a family, and friends who’ve lost a comrade. please guys. im so taken aback by the amount of negativity being thrown his way. this isn’t easy for a lot of people, and if you are that callous, then keep your fucking mouths shut. out of respect for the dude and the people that actually did care for him. come on.

  26. ? Says:

…^^just like SBTVC did for MJ, McMahon, Fawcett and others right?

  27. S. Says:

^ This is different than MJ, McMahon, and Fawcett. Snow was an important part of our community, if you can’t get that, get out.

  28. ????????!!!!!!! Says:

Jesus christ this shit is getting tired. This guy was a fucking loser. I’ve grown up with a handful of people that are identical to him in every way except their parents weren’t wealthy art collectors and didn’t have the means to trump up their chicken scratchings and “edgy” bullshit. Half of them are dead, just add Dash to the pile. Get out of New York for two seconds and maybe you’ll realize that none of this boring ass coke party “art” bullshit matters at all. His daughter’s better off.

  29. Anonymous Says:

Dude, he was just a fucked up guy with a really interesting life, and he owned a camera. His really interesting life made his snapshots $$$$$$.

There are a few guys I know/knew that would have taken just as crazy shots with their camera. And they are mostly dead from drugs too.

Sucks he died, but drugs’ll kill ya.

  30. Dough Boy Says:

nah son. not to knock the kid for any of his shit but c’mon broham, you really think THATS a selling point because hes more hood than me?

    nigga what?

all of the shit he was on about could be found in any hood.

but yo, rip, whatever. eat your own words man

“Fuck you. How dare you talk about death. You don’t even know how to live.”

death is a part of life.

  32. booty clap dick trigger Says:

O.k…..I think i get the formula:

    1. Celebrity w/ no affiliation to the L.E.S. “crew” dies = totally lambasting a motherfucker at the expense of his friends and family, and if you don’t like it, you have no sense of humor

    2. Some guy you knew dies = everyone who doesn’t gouge their eyes out w/ a rusty spoon in overwhelming grief is an asshole…..and god forbid they joke about it, because having a sense of humor doesn’t apply if you’re not laughing

    Is that about right?

  33. blam Says:

I hope all his friends who lionized him for his drug use are totally stoked that he finally OD’d … I dont understand how “friends” like that work. Dude needed help a long time ago, maybe if he had better actual friends things would have been different. Having a junkie friend is super fucking cool until he dies.

  36. soooo Says:

doing a line for someone who died of a drug overdose is some ignorant-type shit

  37. Vane$$a Says:

  38. booty clap dick trigger Says:

    not always.

money is money, money doesnt buy sense. and you have a lot of senseless mutherfucks in the world.

i still think the dude is more hood than me and I’m from the hood. I just dont get why some people intentionally place themselves in the gutter while most are trying to get out.

    right, its “fun”

  46. forever rad Says:

i’m an artist and i’ve had fun in the past speculating about whether his work was bullshit but it doesn’t matter. it’s hard to separate an artist’s work from their life/persona, nothing new there. i always loved klaus kinski not because he was a great actor but because he was fucking barking mad and therefore super fun to watch, there’s a million other people like that. but i’m pretty sure that all of the nasty comments come from jealousy, because this guy was obviously so loved by so many people. drugs, overdose, whatever, it’s not my place to judge anybody for their decisions. i never met him but obviously this guy was special, don’t hate. it makes you look bad, not him.

  47. white power Says:

  49. S. Says:

Taking to time to fill out the comment box in order to talk shit about a man who just died (on his friend’s site no less) is the saddest thing I’ve ever seen. Dash was a legend, his memory will live forever. Ya’ll just jealous, it’s that simple

Since Blognigger didn’t show today is it safe to ass ume that Dash Snow was Blognigger? So much for the theory that he wasn’t a talented artist.

  60. cuntrag deluxe Says:

Get the fuck over it. To everyone ‘blah blah he was so great, boo hoo’, you were the ones there sticking shit in and snorting stuff up with him. So it’s all on you.

Hey, I know, grow the fuck up and stop thinking that ‘the new york dream’ is only about a juvenile myth about stealing shit and doing drugs. How long can that really last?

  62. Frenchy Says:

RIP

  63. rjb Says:

He seems more like a cool friend and all-around interesting fun guy than an artist. I totally agree that the wannabes can eat it. Dude took some chances and made his own path in life. R.I.P.

  64. Delanoche Says:

It’s no secret that Dash has been trying to get clean for a minute. Anybody who has spent any time with him recently would know that he’s cycled through cleaning up and relapsing constantly over the past few years and that that this particular stage of rehabilitation is a really precarious time for a heroin-user in recovery. Tolerance goes down and what would be a sufficient shot to get a regular-user high will cause someone using who hasn’t used in awhile to go into respiratory arrest.

Two other people I knew, Nick Traina of the punk band Link 80 and Oscar Scaggs, son of Blues artist Boz Scaggs, both SF based, died under the EXACT same circumstances in the late 90s. They cleaned up, their tolerance drastically diminished, they used, and it was that first shot that killed them. Anybody who thinks that heroin-users can just go ahead and quit are naive and would probably pay a lot of money to have dinner with Sarah Palin. The lack of compassion and understanding from the negative comments on this thread just go to show that their creators do not belong in our New York as they really don’t get it.

What needs to be understood is that its not Dash’s art that made him special, it’s Dash himself. His art was simply an extension of his personality. The fact that he could support himself through his art is a sidebar in the life and times of a wonderful example of a human being. His capacity for loving his friends was unparalleled. And he was fun. Really fucking fun. Anybody who would say otherwise is a mark and is not worth knowing. They should be working at the DMV.

Dash was alone when he died; no one spurred on his final shot. Relapsing is a very serious thing and in most cases, mine included, it is done alone and without the knowledge or approval of others. Serious drug use is a deeply private matter and the only crime in Dash’s final act is the stigma associated with drug use. Had we, as Americans, been able to find ourselves willing to accept, vote for, and pass bills sponsoring the decriminalization of drugs, an exceptional individual might still be alive today.

And for those responsible for the negative comments, from the bottom of my heart: FUCK YOU!

  65. James Says:

Da na Na Na Na / Another Obit-the-dust…

  66. HOMO the unofficial Says:

cuntrag deluxe: that would be funny, but what was even funnier was watching him try and work a computer. it was like he was visiting from another planet in many ways.

also, you so called experts on him, and his friends can eat a dick, we all cared and tried to help, but trying to stop that guy from doing something was like trying to stop a diesel truck with your face (which is what you people should do, you disrespectful assholes!)

  67. blognigger Says:

    R.I.P. King Sacer IRAK CREW
Love and peace to EARSNOT, BEN KING S0L0M0N ones, and Dash’s surviving family and friends.

Dash epitomized the addage “nothing is true everything is permitted” something that the legitimate lifers are all striving for yet almost all of us fall very short of. He was the precedent, a beacon. All of you haters and lovers are all alike…throw your computer out the window and relax….then panic. Thanks Gavin

  92. Gavin Says:

    @ Delanoche
“What needs to be understood is that its not Dash’s art that made him special, it’s Dash himself.”

Yes. This is what I was trying to say. This so-called art world phase that Gawker commenters and angry midwestern teens are talking about was a blip in his life. The Guardian loves him because they idolize New York. The NYT loves his family tree. The NY Post wants you to know he liked the NY Post. Al these little obsessions are tiny, tiny parts of his life. His Polaroids ALONE are more than you could ever possibly put together. Try it. I couldn’t. He didn’t go to art school hoping to make it one day as the new Basquiat. People basically asked him for art because his friends were doing it so he took a crap on the NY Post and said, “Here.”

I’ve been wasted for two days and getting condolences from people about my close pal. I feel guilty because he was not my close pal. I hung out with him maybe a dozen times from 2000 to 2005 and saw him sporadically after we both became dads. To me it’s not about “my pal” but what Dash represented: youth and carpe diem and all that great New York shit. I see it in the Newmore Switchblades and it makes me happy to be alive.

I wish the critics had effective mirrors and saw how unqualified they are. I’m all for championing the underdog. I grew up in Ottawa for fuckssakes and we laughed at how big American cities thought they were special. The thing is, if you wanted to see what parts of New York WERE actually worth the hype, Dash was standing in the middle of it, smiling his head off. He wasn’t a Vincent Gallo egomaniac cool guy. He was like a friendly rat saying, “Hey, did you ever see this?”

He’d tell you your fly was down.

I don’t know. I’m still wasted. You get mad when your dad doesn’t give you a high five for some gay play you wrote. He never had a dad. He made a million mistakes and that was kind of the whole gig. The Mistakers. That’s what it’s all about.

If he had just continued to this next phase: The Fatherhood phase. He would see how much fun life can be and how trivial all the shit in the previous phases are. If you are a young wastoid who sees this as all there is please now there is a whole other UNIVERSE out there after you cum in a girl. The previous shit isn’t irrelevant. It’s part of the whole process. But the next part rules…

  93. total turd Says:

eventually you have to stop pretending you’re not responsible for anything because at the least you’re responsible for your body because if you’re not, you die.

  94. a dog called nigger Says:

HAHAHA. Three fucking obit posts on the same site. Sorry, but in the guy’s a legend. I went to the show in Berlin in 2007 and for junkie he had fucking impressive work rate – there was a shitload of stuff. And over 80% of it was better than most of the shit that gets passed off as art today. In three mediums, too: photography, sculpture and collage. Not to mention he was still getting fame doing graffiti. And not the gay doing a commission for Nike bullshit. Proper outlaw, derelict doing it for the fame and thrill getting up shit. Dash Snow saw beauty in diamonds and dogshit equally. And the best thing is, he really couldn’t give a ratfuck if you liked it or not. Sorry, but Gavin nailed it. All you shit talkers are gay gay gay in the worst possible way. His fucking friend died, you can’t let people badmouth. Period. I have know idea whether he was a trust fund kid or not, but if I came from a rich family I’d do exactly what he did. Fatal score aside, it was $$ well spent

  95. Max Says:

Leaving a little girl behind like that is a such a shame, confusion will kill you more than boredom or art will. The next phase you talk about (Fatherhood) is supposed to be heaven , so my friends faces say anyway.

  96. Christopher W. Says:

The question is, who will be remembered more: Dash Snow (1981-2009), or (1955-1979)?

  97. Christopher W. Says:

    It should say: “or [ ------------ ]“

  98. a dog called nigger Says:

    good advice bro.

  100. Brian Says:

How can people be so bitter about a guy who inspired so many others?

Throw on ARE’s “Don’t Be Scared” (it always seemed to me to be an anthem for IRAK) and look through his Polaroids on tinyvices or go watch some old Kid America episodes and see that he was a muse for so many.

  101. cuntrag deluxe II Says:

    Gavin is admirable.

  104. LA Says:

Yeah, Dash was great, and I think anyone who he would have cared to be respected by, already does. He doesn’t really need to be defended, especially in such in unkind way. Nice of you to care so much about an acquaintance, but this post was a bit too harsh and over the top in my opinion.

  105. LA Says:

someone’s grumpy. Dash was an okay artist. He seemed like a cooler guy than he was an artist but I didn’t know him so idk. gavin why are you having such a temper tantrum? You sound like a popular girl in high school or some shit.

Throw on ARE’s “Don’t Be Scared” (it always seemed to me to be an anthem for IRAK) and look through his Polaroids on tinyvices or go watch some old Kid America episodes and see that he was a muse for so many.”

So true! That song was epic. and so was dash.

  108. Gavin Says:

I told my dad he was an idiot as soon as I was old enough to have a brain. I told him he didn’t understand the working man and Communism was the only system that cared about the Proletariat. My dad grew up in the Gorbals of Glasgow and worked his fucking ass off every day of his life. He fought so many fights the nigga looks like KRS-One. His father began the Glasgow paper unions that were so pro-working class they actually killed the industry.

Despite all these 18 year-old, juvenile rantings he was always there for me. When I was arrested for drunk driving, he kicked my ass but drove me to court and sat there with the lawyers trying figure out a scam. That was 18. What about 13? At 13 I was listening to Motley Crue on my BMX and writing notes to girls. What if you had been on your own since then? I ran into Dash recently when he lived with Dan and he brought me upstairs to some late-night stupid party at his house. Dash’s dad was there doing lines with the rest of us. How sad. Dan was dancing with some sweaty 10 and Dash was making great jokes and showing people shit. His dad was squinting and being high.I hope he was wondering what the fuck happened.

Take 13 year-old you and stick him in an apartment forever. What did you make of it?

    Hey Delanoche,

I was friends with Nick Traina too. I actually used to play with Link 80 when the drummer couldn’t make it to shows. It’s a mixed blessing that he died ‘pre-internet’ because motherfuckers didn’t have a chance to talk shit online.

The photo of the guy snorting coke off that dude’s cock is fucking amazing. I’ve joked about stuff like that with my friends, but to ACTUALLY see someone do it…holy shit.

  114. B I N G O Says:

just because you embrace someone, doesn’t make you part of the scene. Create your scene, even in New York City … the Ramones did it … its part of our tradition. Create your own scene … don’t just sing the praises of someone because you don’t feel important now … work at it … you can be as amazing as anyone else if you work hard enough and live enough.

If anything Dash Snow showed us that time and time again.

  115. David Miller Says:

R.I.P. Only the good die young

  116. bliggity black Says:

Dash Snow dying is sad, but it’s hard not to agree that he brought it completely on himself. I am envious of his reckless ways and cool guy lifestyle, agreed. My problem with him being lionized isn’t a knock on his personality. Obviously he seems like a good guy. But what did he really contribute to society, besides some shock value art and good party spirit? I have much more respect for people who die young in the course of helping others or doing something of value, like combat journalists or soldiers. Dash seemed awesome, i wish i could have been friends with him, but his unabashed hedonism doesn’t make him a hero, just someone cool. And the same cool guy reckless attitude everyone is celebrating him for? That’s what got him killed. Look back at Blogn’s post about kurt cobain…it’s good writing on the subject of artists (even though, like i said, i dont respect dash’s work) dying young and selfishly.

  117. vegan jules Says:

This dude is cool. This crew’s rebelliousness has emanated throughout manhattan for the last decade. To say this hasn’t had it’s effect on the world would be a lie. Look at hipsters in Mexico city, LA, and 18 year old art students in London putting on the same New York style.

The elusive little dreams in these polaroids have always been what I wanted my life to be like. I don’t do drugs, and maybe you can’t get two 10s into a late night threesome without them, but if anyone was cool enough to make that happen it seems like this guy was.

New York is a brutal city for sensitive people. People are fucking assholes. The world is fucked up. There are tons of rich kids out there without one iota of the taste, character, balls, and dare I say talent of Dash Snow. Nobody is perfect. Don’t do heroin, don’t do coke. Hard drugs will probably fuck you up.

  118. vegan jules Says:

It’s true. I’m bitter and jealous, because I was born in the wrong place at the wrong time, and more importantly to the wrong parents, and that I don’t have my creative flatulence celebrated as a result. I’m sorry that your friend died, but cannot feel sympathy, for those who have the luxury to “live” with a safety net, only to meet their end at the hands of their own indulgence. And all the fan-boys who didn’t even know the guy, who will probably tell me I’m an asshole can fuck off too, you shouldn’t care as much as you do, and I find the hypocritical selectiveness of what’s off limits, with regards to people who die, quite abominable, that because he was “one of us” he’s above criticism, while you deride others who have met similarly pitiful ends.

How dare you tell me I don’t know how to live, when my only concern is to survive.

  119. realist Says:

how can anyone actually try to analyze someone’s death into a situation where they’re a) glad they’re dead or b)they deserved to die. do you even realize how callous and heartless that is? this is just proof that people will talk shit about anything given the chance. you didn’t agree with him morally? who the fuck cares? the man’s dead!

  120. miles Says:

I did not contribute to the aforementioned comments taking my name in vain.

Public mourning is weird, verbalising = trivialising in so many instances. The internet is an even stranger place to host the wake. A symbol would be a more fitting tribute in the immediate aftermath of the event; shutdown the blog for the day, wear black for a year, this is not the medium to show your love and respect for a person recently deceased.

Are you speaking for those who can’t? Because there is a reason they can’t so soon. It seems like you’re capitalising in the only way the media knows how. The first one’s on the scene . . . But he was one of us, one of you, and it’s you’re due, our due, to tell the world what this man meant to us. But if this is true it could have waited. Has his family spoken, only his friends? My lips would be sealed, I would not utter his name. The Aborigine’s of Australia follow this practice, the Jew rips at the heart of his shirt. We post BLOGS

  129. Street Boning Says:

Gavin, like everyone else, thinks someone like this dead guy is a complete douche UNLESS they’re friends w/ him. Actually, it doesn’t even seem like they were friends. That aside, this was a rich kid who was afforded the chance to live any way he wanted, and he chose “hipster drug addict”. Oh well. Would it have been better if he chose “serious artist”, or “dad”? Fact is, no one should give a shit unless they knew him….although SC has to be willing to take some shit since they have a sense of humor about everything else

Who cares that he got the idea to tear up phone books and have group sex in the mess? also, enough with your holier than thou new york city street cred credo. I’m glad he died. Why is it such a fucking shock.? If you live hard you die hard. Nephew of Uma Thurman, Grandson of Robert Thurman and rich fucking trust fund baby of the de Menil fortune. If he didn’t have these connections he’d be just another hit and run no one would give fuck. He’d be another talentless hack but because he is related to these rich fuckers that is the only reason you care oh and you once shared a rail or two at a party. Gavin why don’t you you do too much heroin and do us all a favor. Fuck you. Fuck your wife. Fuck you stupid bratty kids and your loft paid for by Viacomm/VBS. 140. Kim Mitchell Says:

He should’ve gone for a soda

  141. PYT Says:

if dash was alive, would you blow coke off of his dick, or just keep sucking it?

  142. Delanoche Says:

@ Cheesebottoms: Funny that you would take Joey Bustos’ place when he was too fucked up to play. Last time I saw him his blacked-out, hammered wife, my drunk wife, and my wasted ass got in her station wagon and tracked him down at a gay bar in the Castro. I guess he figured it was the best place to get blow at 2AM outside of going up to some random dude on D-block in the
Western Addition. He was in the bathroom with six dudes. It’s sad that he chose doing blow with a bunch of homosexual strangers over going home with his wife and driving his kids to school in the morning.

@ Gav: I’ve been depressed and drunk and couldn’t really find it in me to continue writing yesterday evening. The very talented and very disturbed writer Max Leavitt stopped taking his medication three weeks ago and decided he would hang himself, completely shattering his close-knit family and leaving a very needy little brother. Dash’s departure leaves the tally for the lunar month at two. Fuck.

Although I wasn’t particularly close with Dash and have only hung tough with him maybe a dozen times, I never found his drug use to be particularly bad. In fact, at the time, it seemed perfectly normal. In the end, HH or C**po(who needs help) seemed way more discombobulated than Dash at any given moment.

For people to say that his friends didn’t do anything or were required to really upsets me. Many of them did do something and, more importantly, it’s not there fucking responsibility. In my opinion, the most you can do for someone in need without overtly intervening- which isn’t the easiest thing to do when one might dabble themselves- is make yourself available. I think it’s safe to say that all those really tight with Dash made themselves really fucking available.

I was talking with Filipo the other day and he was remarking about how heroin was a thing back when IRAK linked up in the late-90s. It said that the drug’s use was relatively common amongst them and that some of them were using it often. With respect to their privacy, heroin use was not unique to Dash amongst his peers and more few of his close friends are either heroin users or in recovery. As any habitual user can attest to, when you regularly use a given drug other people who use it regularly are the norm. This applies to weed, psychedelics, heroin, coke, meth, or whatever.

When I was snorting – and in the end, eating off my floor- from a half-gram to a gram of coke a day, I would only really want to hang out with other cokeheads. I’m not talking about the casual users who go for a “bit of charlie” now and again; I’m referring to the shades closed, paranoid, chain smoking, endlessly plotting fiends that many of us become for something or another at some point in our lives. I really knew I was in the zone when I would get so high I couldn’t speak. When I had to hang out with an old friend for a beer, was dead broke, or was in some weird part of the world where I couldn’t gain easy access to cocaine, I was bored out of mine. I would have rather been alone in an empty room with a chair and pack of reds than have to spend time with my friends who weren’t really into drugs. For me, I was much more comfortable around my kind.

I wish coke settled well with me. It doesn’t. I wish I could I’d do lots of it. I can’t.

I guess what I am trying to say is that to many of Dash’s peers, his use might have seemed perfectly normal. Although there are some people who made serious efforts to “fix” Dash, and my respect goes to them, many of those who found themselves close to Dash have their own set of substance issues to deal with. I don’t think Dash’s use of drugs was the exception amongst his friends; as anyone who had the pleasure of spending time with him, it was very normal.

I can’t write anymore about this.

  143. bloop Says:

In a really weird way it seems like a lot of what Vice was, and what Gavin was, and is, makes sense now.

I never knew about this guy, or who he was, or what he represented. But going over it now, it seems like none of this would have existed without him. When Gavin says that Vice wouldn’t have existed without him, in a roundabout way, for some reason I completely buy it.

The thing that goes through my head is what if it didn’t happen? What if he didn’t OD, and lived through it, and grew old and had to deal with greying hair and Alzheimer’s and panic attacks, and all of those other fun things? I mean, I’m all for martyrs – they make for much better made for TV movies…

The truth is if you’re looking for someone to represent 2000-2010, not just New York, but AMERICA, this would be it. Too far, too much, too fast, too soon.

    Too bad.

  144. B. Says:

Thanks dude. I met him in ‘07 and immediately fell into a bromance with the kid. I felt privileged to get drunk with him a few times. Once I turned him on to Jim Thompson, assuming he would forget about it. A month later he had already read The Killer Inside Me and was ready to discuss it over a case of Bud. No one like him.

why am i not starting havoc with my friends? why am i content with going to house parties bored as shit? all this coverage of dash snow’s death showed me that i need to have fucking fun.

thank you for writing about dash. i’m sorry that you are mourning his death.

that dash fellow was a pussy

  149. $#%^& Says:

baby nuts, you are missing the whole point. he wasn’t starting fires to “have fun” he was doing it just cause he was that crazy. his willingness to push experience to the extreme refusing to fall in the safety net of culture or society. Even the “mature decisions” that he made in his later life were extreme. How many of you fags are willing to become a father at 25, most of you are even afraid of commitment to a girl at that age.
That is why it is so retarded and offensive when people, that just heard about him, label him a rich kid. He was born to money, so what. Do you think he was sitting on a hefty allowance at some rich kids art school, getting high and crashing at his grandmother pad when his money ran off. Look at his Polaroids, he was down with the thick of it since he was 15, in the gutter, like a fucking rat. All the drugs and vandalism were consequential and not what is defying him.

Find soemthing else in Dash Snow’s legacy to be inspired from.

  154. graffiti Says:

The lives we lead are so easy to glamorize by our put together friends. And easier to vindicate under the guise of being rebellious. I figure Sace tapped into that by disconnecting as much as he tried to.

Graffiti has always been a joke. To those that have given their lives to it, the irony is insufferable. KUK, PCF, PVC, GTB, CMA.. It’s all the same. We all hate ourselves and wished we’d amounted to something else. We’re not rebels, we’re not meant to be lauded. We all thought we had something to prove, when the simple fact is, we knew we aren’t shit, he knew he wasn’t shit, and what most of us fail to see is that everyone else knows it too. Cut deck, fistfights, dirty fucks and lockup are not fucking badges of glory. They’re fucking wastes of time. Propagated by bullshit like yours Gavin. Where would your fucking shit be without us. No one will learn from this. Just like we didn’t with Semz.

There is no glory here. There is no respect here. Graffiti is a hole. Sace fell in it a long time ago. He isn’t really dead to me, he’s just another fucking waste of paint, fading on a box or a fucking air conditioner.

    RIP Sace.

he’s even smoked the stuff himself — you can buy it near his office,
which is in a Puerto Rican part of the neighborhood. “Native
Williamsburgers can handle it,” he says. “But then you have rich kids
