Just got around to looking at the radio show. THANKS FOR THE HELP PUBLICIZING THIS. Seriously. We need anything we can get given the deafening silence that followed the release. So, thanks.

Nice seeing 80’s Harcore too.

My thoughts.

1. Fear is not a hardcore band. I realize it’s nitpicking but I’d strike it from the set (was one of the weaker covers anyway).

2. Consider the Dad-core angle (actually that’s kinda stupid) but you should at least try to write some songs with Pressman. Don’t attempt to write anything with Curtis he thinks creativity is “gay” and will insist on learning more covers. You are very funny and smart and Doug is a great guitar player I’m sure you could come up with something that actually transcends your current material.

3. Don’t lose the the giant tattoo backplate-thing covering your back. It’s finally coming in handy. The ski-mask is a nice touch too.

4. Let’s face it, you guys lost some starpower when Terry Richardson, Andrew WK, Adam Yauch, Matt Sweeney etc.. pulled out. Don’t panic. I have an idea…I think you can get away with claiming that Doug is actually Oscar-winning actor F. Murray Abraham. See what I mean?

5. Keep an eye on that drummer. I don’t trust him. Take that with a grain of salt…maybe I’m just paranoid because after I was in a Hardcore-revival band with Doug and Curtis our drummer ended up having coitus with my (very recent) ex-girlfriend.

6. Also the songs are almost entirely from California-based bands. You’re making the Midwest, East Coast and ALL OF CANADA look (by comparison) a little insignificant.

I’ll stop there but all in all a good showing.

Maybe we can get together again sometime so you can chastise me for wearing sandals and fat-guy attire. That’s fun.

Fear’s close enough man..i mean a lot of people would say Black Flag wasn’t really a hardcore band but if the idea is to play songs people under 35 might actually know you can’t rule the most famous bands out. You could play Teen Idles etc. all day and be a record nerd about it but then no one knows what your playing and the ‘cover” concept gets kinda of lost.

  3. IDIOT! Says:

fuck man that band was awesome what are you talking about? 80s hardcore RULES!

I watched that video heaps of times.

and the FEAR song was the best.

FUCK that article and the cunt that writ it.

Of course FEAR isn’t a hardcore band. They had a sense of humor and wrote good songs.

I always thought the suicidal acoustic versions were kind of gay – but kind of groovy too considering how weird mike muir was. I think you guys could bust a slow jam in one of your sets. You should try ’show you no mercy’ by the cro-mags. Its kind of good if you sing it in the suicidal/emotional style:

    I tried to stop myself
Told you those games ain’t good for yourself
Gave ya advice cuz I thought you could hear
Better listen closely cuz your end is near

Won’t show you no mercy at all
Gonna kick ya, kick ya when you’re takin your fall
Won’t show you no mercy today
Gonna hit ya, hit ya when you’re movin on your way

Put ya in check cuz I thought you were my friend
Sorry it had to come to the bitter end
Just like a blind man you can’t see
Better move along and just let me be

Don’t come to me for no sympathy
    You won’t get none here
    Just leave you in fear

Won’t show you no mercy at all…

What does it take to prove you were a fake
    I thought so anyway,
Won’t show you no mercy today…

Won’t show you no mercy at all…

FEAR had some hardcore songs that were light years faster than anything Black Flag pulled off (which isn’t hard to do) but they weren’t a full blooded hardcore band at all. But that’s because you could kinda get burned out by songs that blast under a minute going 220 BPMs if all you wanted to do was piss people off and you knew how to play your instruments.

This Neb-Head sounds like a big cry baby.

  10. Cal .45 Says:

What are you guys fucking crazy. Fear was so hardcore they made John Belushi die.

  11. Cal .45 Says:

    FEAR DOESN’T CARE ABOUT YOU!

    (FUCK YOU)

    FEAR FEAR

  13. Cal .45 Says:

Why don’t you write a thesis about how fear aren’t hardcore.

Pulling back your sleeve to show your tattoos seems queer but that’s what tattoos are, accessories.

You may have noticed there’s a lot of music industry chicks at SXSW all dressed up with no interest in you whatsoever. You may have also noticed you’re not in a band.

I love music nerds because they’re experts in other people saying, “Kick out the jams motherfuckers!”

The only way you’re going to get laid at SXSW is to find a girl who doesn’t mind having sex in a closet or on the floor of a shitty hotel room at six in the morning. In other words, you’re not going to get laid at SXSW.
