Were you aware that this ever happened? Because I’m afraid I’ve been completely oblivious until just now.
Regards,
Jared Ellis
Yeah we saw that a million years ago. When are people going to admit that the whole “Rap is now bad” bullshit is really just another evolution of “The kids today…”? O’Reilly says blacks were better when Motown was big and he pretends that’s because it was better for Negroes. What a pile of bullshit. Motown and Doo-wop was blacks behaving well to entertain whites. There was nothing “empowering” about saying “oh ooooh, my baby’s gone.” When Curtis Mayfield left The Impressions and dared to mention rent or simply being black (he barely said if it was even good or not) he was vilified and had to start his own label just to get his records out. Isn’t that proof people didn’t want Negroes to express themselves?
Now they’re doing what they want; God forbid. Rap is rock and roll for blacks by blacks (though us whites love it too). Why the fuck does rock and roll have to portray a good example for kids? Does Mötley Crüe have to sing about brushing their teeth? Did Alice Cooper have a song about doing your homework? These assholes can pretend the debate is about race and being responsible but what they’re really saying is, “The kids today got no respect. Look at them! Goddamn clothes hanging out everywhere. Swearing and running around with no respect for their elders. Get off my lawn you brats! Goddamnit. What is the world coming to? Hey, close your mouth when you eat, you look like a goddamn cow. Shut that door. You think I’m paying to air condition all of Stinson Avenue!?”
That’s my two cents,
Sincerely,
Christi Bradnox
PS 9 times out of 10 when you hear old people talking about young people being “irresponsible” they are really just saying variations of the above lawn rant.

Thanks for catching up to the Dipset train Street Carnage.
Danielle #1 can eat a dick. Cam is the only rapper who has the balls to act like himself, regardless if it gives him bad press or not, i.e. “Real hot summer” video & his 60 Minutes interview. He doesn’t have PR coaches telling him what to say. Cam is an individual, and that’s a whole lot more than any other artists out who are afraid to speak their minds or are boring as dick.
Plus Cam’s a multi-millionaire WITHOUT going through major labels. Him and his Dipset affiliates sell mixtapes, and they don’t pay for their beats, they steal them. The way they get away with it is because when you purchase a mixtape, you’re purchasing the cover art, not the CD. The CD is for free.
Plus Cam is the most creative lyricist ever. Most people don’t know it because they hate the beats he rhymes to and usually change the CD before Cam starts spitting. In an era where every rapper is a parody of themselves, i.e. 50 Cent, Jay Z, & Ghostface, Cam remains the only rapper with balls enough to make original choices, regardless if whether they succeed or fail.

Man, slut machine and the whole jezebel link was an eye opener. She just comes across as some dumb megalomaniac trying” really really hard. Although, I don’t know what or who Slut Machine is trying to be like because she just comes across as iggnorant and misinformed.
Ah New York – It’s the shits.
07.09.08 at 7:09 pm
Slut Machine sounded dumb because they transcribed her words verbatim. That’s what happens when you see conversation in type. She was on a show called Thinking and Drinking and she had some drinks and talked “outside of the box” about rape. Wasn’t that the assignment? The old cow that runs that show just needed publicity so she made them look like fools and then bitched about it. Same as O’Reilly. “The Kids Today” sells airtime.

Fuck. Yes.
Here is a mux of the movie Little Monsters + the Cam’Ron song Purple Haze: http://www.roosterflix.com/2008/06/little-monsters-1989-mux-review.html
07.09.08 at 8:42 pm
Yeah, perhaps you are right — perhaps seeing her words transcribed made her seem dumb. I don’t feel what I was saying really had anything to do with the whole “kids today” bit, though. Fuck condoms, fuck worrying about STD’s or AIDS, but to suggest “pulling out” as the best contraceptive seems a tad naive. I mean Slut Machine and her chum failed to acknowledge the pill. Why not take birth control, and pull out — still no latex needed. And to be able to not worry about being raped and all is great — she is indeed thicker than most Williamsburg hipsters — but she just came across as pompous.
Her 4:20 advice is bullshit as well, and I realize that it’s supposed to be – but I figured when she was “outside the box” she would have something a bit more logical and practical to say, instead of talking like a Vice article.
Gavin is opinionated as anyone, but I’ve never felt he didn’t deserve the influence and notoriety he posesses. This is not the case with Slut Machine — it seems she’s just quite typical of every other girl in Williamsburg. The whole “advancement” for feminism has just been skewed and twisted to a point where it seems like women try to possess the worst qualities of men. Such as not giving a shit about contraceptives and fucking and drinking too much, . Women are entitled to these views as much as men – but Slut Machine is without a doubt – the poster child for female advancement gone astray. Girls are Boys.
Maybe I’m just bitter because I know there may not be woman left with a healthy uterus and a flourishing care-giving instinct. In that video – Slut Machine embodies everything I hope women do not become.

“finally, an article on this site that written in a way that doesnt make me wonder if the author is trainably retarded (didnt watch the video though, that may ruin it)”
Well, seeing as that Cam’ron thing aired back in (I think) 2003, they had a few years to write it.
07.10.08 at 12:39 am
Wow, christi, way to be topical. this would have been interesting pre 9/11. i grew up on gangsta rap, but you have to admit it influences morons to act more moronic. Every gangsta rapper should have to spend a week in mogadishu before releasing an album. assholes
07.10.08 at 1:08 am
That was extraordinarily exciting there for a moment to see those fresh-faced white kids quoting Camron lyrics. What do they call that? “Playing the dozens” or something?
07.10.08 at 3:06 am
Anyone of those lyrics are saying this: I drink a lot, I have a lot of expensive bullshit, I do nothing truly important, I have a very high opinion of myself, I like oral sex. Why is any of that considered genius or even great. Look, I like Camron’s music overall, but the dude doesn’t have anything very mind blowing to say. He’s a product of his environment and that’s not saying much, period.
Materialism in rap lyrics has been boring since the late 90’s. Thankfully this video is old, and hopefully hiphop is moving away from it.
Slut Machine is hot, she can say whatever she wants (which has nothing to do with her looks). I’m sure her opinions will change once she’s had a kid…. just like most anyone.

The Terminator was my favorite saturday morning program.

One thing that isn’t mentioned is that established mainstream record companies market the flavor of the month hip hop only – that is, when we were kids there was a lot of different kinds of hip hop. We had trends of wildly divergent styles of hip hop and culture, and there seemed to be room for innovation, experimentation and change and variety. Now that hip hop is so lucrative to big time record companies, clothing companies, etc. it’s all safe for them – totally homogenized (and fucking boring) and what’s come out on top is basically a celebration of hypercapitalism (not surprising in our society where we live to consume, even while we have these wild inequities) and this style of hip hop is really all that is put out by major labels.
I remember when Posdonous said, “isn’t it cool when you cut your hand and the blood is red instead of sell out green.” Also, when was the last time you saw Dead Prez on tv. This type of stuff isn’t helpful to the fat cats who stand to make money off the kids who buy the shit they put out – you need something safer. You don’t want the youth questioning too much.
I think it’s naive to say that the lyrics and culture don’t shape the youth, but it’s also stupid not to realize that there are other forces at work, that culture and art and in a self referencing each other and in a cycle of influencing each other and also that dudes like Camron (despite his ownership of his own label) are really just pawns in this game.
