America finally renewed its prescription for chill pills. Thank God. I fucking LOVE guns. It always amazes me how many people want gun control. David Cross, my wife, Derrick… basically everyone I know. They WANT the government to tell them what to do and could give a shit if that contradicts the constitution. They say they “Don’t want to live in an armed society” but we do live in an armed society, only, it’s just lawbreakers who get guns. Think of it this way, there’s way more good people around than bad ones so how could arming more of us be worse for society overall? Huh?
New York’s laws are particularly pussy. Before today it was a felony to have a fucking pellet gun in your home! Have you ever been shot in the face with a pellet gun at point blank range? I have. At worst, it’s inconvenient (you need to get a doctor to pull it out). How is that a dangerous weapon?
Everyone in New York says they “hate guns” (whatever that means) because they heard about some kid who was playing with his dad’s shotgun and his head popped off. As with most things Left, it’s a classic case of not doing the numbers. Yes, hundreds of innocent people have been killed accidentally by guns. If you compare those stats with cars, stairs or even furniture, you realize guns are about as dangerous as bees. A child’s chances of dying in a gun accident today are a million to one. And even that number is going down.
But here’s the real stat nobody cites when discussing guns. They PREVENT crime. Nobody wants to factor in the two million + times a year somebody says, “Get away from me. I have a gun” because it’s not considered newsworthy. When a madman goes into a college and blows away kids nobody says, “Why wasn’t anybody else armed?” When a security guard successfully nails one of these guys nobody wants to discuss it. And when a badass Leb tells a thief “You’re not robbing this bank” you practically have to be a private eye to find out about it.
According to today’s decision New York’s gun laws are unconstitutional. Things are going to be different here starting today and I for one am pleased as punch. As our old buddy Mao used to say (though in a slightly different context) “Let a hundred flowers bloom!”

New York makes it almost impossible to get a gun license. To begin with, you have to pay nearly $500 to even apply and get finger-printed. The process takes months, and is entirely opaque. If you get rejected, you forfeit that application fee. An entire mini-industry of consultants has sprung up to help people get licenses, and even with their help it’s basically a crap shoot.
Here’s a good article about what happened when Andrew Stuttafort applied for a gun license: http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1282/is_3_52/ai_59243533/pg_2
Fortunately, today’s Supreme Court decision means that these laws are going away, soon.

As a police officer it’s my duty to put as many rounds as is humanely possible into suspects, just in case the perp might have a gun; we, as police officers just don’t want to see any innocent bystanders get hurt, that’s all.

Regarding the Colorado church security guard: that’s the first thing attributed to God in a long time that’s really worthwhile.

Great, just wait until the Blacks find out about this. Now gang members across the nation are going to think it’s OK to brandish sparkling new pistols about the neighborhood like they own the place. Take me back to the glory days of ’07 when our only concern was the Cholo on the corner with a sharpened clothes hanger wrapped in duct tape. Now, they just won’t stop pumping my Prius with slugs. Has anyone studied the emissions of a standard semi-auto? How green is your firearm? These are important questions concerning the well being of our planets atmosphere, wise up.

i agree. its always fun to ask your lib friends which country on the planet has the most comprehensive gun control – they want to say Switzerland or something, but no, the correct answer Alex is that bastion of individual liberties known as North Korea.

i have a hard time caring about gun laws. i find the raving anti-gun heads and their statistics just as annoying and dubious as the pro-gun people and their “guns save lives but no one reports it” conspiracy. There is anecdotal evidence one both sides and it does nothing but preach to the respective choirs.

Oh please. I don’t phrase my arguments like some teenage intern at High Times. The reason it “always amazes you how many people want gun control” is because you don’t have a very good ability to see both sides of an argument. I don’t think the government should outlaw abortion but I can easily see why others do. Not really a problem. I still however think that a woman should have a right to chose. Also, I don’t want the government to tell me what to do. That’s a specious argument. You might as well say I want the government to tell me what to do because the FDA ruled that I can’t eat deadly, tainted meat. As well, I don’t give a shit about some retard leaving his guns lying around so that some future retard accidentally kills himself, I’m more concerned with some drunk paranoid with anger issues bringing a gun that he bought at Wal-mar that never got registered to the park for Father Son day. Now I can only hope that if this does happen there will be twenty or so armed people to start shooting and take him down. Sounds fun, especially when the cops get into it.
I personally want to be able to buy a gun and keep it in my home if I want. The argument is usually about “control”. Registration, background checks, shit like that.
Oh, and as far as “the left” is concerned, most seem quite pleased by the ruling. Here’s what Bloomburg (and don’t say he’s a “republican” that’s in name only) said today:
I haven’t read the decision yet,” said the mayor, who heads the coalition Mayors Against Gun Violence. “The court ruled something that we, our 225 mayors, believe is one of our tenets. You have a right under the Second Amendment to hold a pistol or a rifle. What you don’t have the right to do is to hold one if you are a criminal. And the courts clearly ruled that reasonable regulation, which we believe would include all of the laws on the books in New York State and City… they ruled that reasonable regulations are permitted under the decision.”
In addition, Russ Feingold, one of the liberliest liberals in the Senate said this:
“I am very pleased the Supreme Court finally recognized that the 2nd Amendment protects an individual right to bear arms. This is an important decision for millions of law-abiding gun owners. Public safety must be ensured without depriving our citizens of their constitutional rights.”
06.26.08 at 4:03 pm
I love pro gun people who shout about their constitutional rights without actually reading the second amendment:
Amendment 2 – Right to Bear Arms. Ratified 12/15/1791
A well regulated MILITIA, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
Are you in a militia? Is anyone you know in a militia? No? Well then you’re not really defending the security of a “free State” are you?
Also, yes stairs and cars and balloons kill lots of people, but they also serve other purposes. Guns have one purpose and one purpose alone: To KILL! That makes them different.
06.26.08 at 4:08 pm
You should at least be required to have a license to have a gun. Like a car. The gun rights nuts with their gun-induced boners don’t even want that. Have you ever been to a gun show? Admittedly, they are awesome, but no one needs to own a machine gun. Try going to the Congo or other places where small arms are cheaper and more plentiful than candy bars. Yeah, that’s right, it sucks. Guns are specifically designed to punch holes in people (thanks Kurt Vonnegut) so they should be regulated– yeah, and maybe even banned in places like the fucking subway. Jeez.
06.26.08 at 4:20 pm
Wow…..that’s some staggering legal analysis! Move over Scalia
06.26.08 at 4:23 pm
Read it.
Hey fuckface. We have the right to bear arms AND we have the right to START a militia with said arms if we want. Just because you haven’t started a militia doesn’t mean you can’t own a gun. Where does it say that?
06.26.08 at 4:27 pm
Well I guess you figured out the problem with the Justice system shit stain. Legislation is up to INTERPERETATION. Especially legislation written in the 18th century in a language and cadence that isn’t used now. But my point is the second amendment can be interpereted in different ways, so touting it like it says “Dear America, please by guns” is bullshit! You interperet the militia and gun ownership as two seperate rights, as did the supreme court; I interperet it a different way, as is my right. I think my original point is still valid however, that most people who say the 2nd amendment is an inalienable right HAVE NEVER READ IT! Don’t trot out a vague understanding of the constitution to prove a point. Read the document, develope an interperetation and then formulate a reasoned argument.
And by the way Dizzy, the supreme court ruling on something does not necessarily make it right. They are a body of nine people who are chosen based on their views being similar to the current President’s and how many of the old ones died that year. So next time you want to right a fucking love note to Scalia remember that while his word may be law it isn’t a moral imperative.

David,
This shit about “Anger Issues” implies when someone’s mad, they are so out-of-control, they aren’t deterred by the possibility of other people having guns. That’s bullshit. The death penalty deters. It’s deterred me. And what’s stopping these psychos from coming to work and killing their boss with a knife or running people over with a car. Psychos have plenty of ways to kill people, and they also have plenty of access to illegal firearms.
So, what’s the matter with other people taking him down? When you ad “Especially with the cops involved” you sound like you see it as one big Western shoot ‘em up. What’s wrong with a shoot em up? I’d prefer that to one lone gunman taking people out one by one like he did here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Hennard
A woman watched her parents die because gun laws forced her to leave her gun in her car. She’s a gun advocate now by the way.
Not that I’m worried about that. The odds of it happening to anyone I know are minute. I want a gun to shoot at cans and have fun. To hunt. I’d also like to shoot a mouse with a bb gun in my house without risking 5 years in jail. Bloomberg talks about giving away licenses but give it a try. It’s impossible (see Carney’s link on the second post).
PS: Mr Read It: You’re the only one here that thinks you need to start a militia to get a gun. Have you ever shot cans with a handgun? Have you ever hunted? Both are incredibly fucking fun and they don’t involve killing people.
06.26.08 at 4:46 pm
When I get my gun I’m going to ruthlessly hound out every last illegal, tortilla fixin’, stereo stealin’, orange sellin’, Mexocan immigrant I can get my “fist pumpin’ for the militia” hands on! Then I’m comin’ to get straight west on your tackle box Gavin McWeb-Celeb.
06.26.08 at 4:52 pm
Holy shit! Did you just right a response to me AND David fucking Cross! That’s amazing! It’s almost like I’m in a room with him! David, can I wear your ass as a hat? Reflected Glory!!!! Woo!!
06.26.08 at 4:54 pm
This is bullshit.
06.26.08 at 5:06 pm
Does anyone else find it ironic that I chose the name “Read It” and then confused “write” with “right”? Apparently no one should listen to anything I say. Not that they would. Fuck you, me!

Gavin, aren’t you pretty much saying that guns should be available to one and all because they’re fun?? Well you do have a point there….hmm….U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A……..!

Glibertarianism, it’s the hottest philosophy for 40 year old adolescents worldwide. Go suck a fart out of Heston’s cold dead arse.
06.27.08 at 1:12 am
I’d say David Cross still takes this arguement as it seems like Gavin retained about 10% of Davids rebuttal.
Shooting animals and cans is a lot less fun than Gavin makes it out to be. In Canada as a seven year old, friends and I tried to enjoy both of these said fun activities but to no avail. How about instead of buying guns people just fight with their fists instead of being pussies? It seems to work well here. Instead of having grown ass babies shooting guns at each other for having sex with each others loved ones, how about people just fist fight to resolve their arguements? No one has to die, it’s much more therapeudic, and you will feel better in the morning having only a black eye instead of a torn asshole and ten years in prison.
In conclusion, I guess I just want it to be known that guns are for pussies. I think it would be a lot more difficult to run your boss down in a car or stab him than to just aim and shoot a weapon. Especially since both of these methods of murder may not work at all. Gavin applies no logic to his arguement.
06.27.08 at 4:51 pm
A knife and a car are in no way as deadly as a gun.
06.27.08 at 8:15 pm
USA needs to deal with their societies obsession with violence on a level beyond just gun control, but the fact of the matter is that having access to guns makes killing easier. I am beyond how anyone (i.e. Gavin) can think that this right to bare arms bullshit has any relevance in today’s society. And his ‘point’ that if you gave out more guns to students, they could have shot the gun man is so ridiculous (We need more guns to protect ourselves from guns???) that i’m beginning to think his entire post is pure sarcasm and he actually believes the exact opposite of what he wrote.

Gun control is a joke, I have a working knowledge of improvised explosives and chemistry & can walk into any hardware store or grocery store household cleanser aisle & purchase enough chemical fun to make some Beeg ka-booms, thank you U.S. Army!
Have a lathe on order & am eager to try my hand at hobby gunsmithing. Machine shop skills = instant gun manufacture.
An enterprising Brit named P.A. Luty has a simple, steel pipe submachine gun you can build with hand tools and a version that is semi-auto as well for those like us who don’t wish to run afoul of the ATF.

i think u fucktards are missing the point of an armed populace is to make sure the government can’t just march in and trample your rights, haul u off to a concentration camp etc etc whatever analogy u want to use. imagine if all those heebs back in germany were armed b4 the nazis tried to take their asses away
