Goddamnit. This is just a hot dog place where people yell at each other. Trust Ira Glass to add some haunting music and make it about class and racism. Anyone who walked in there and heard all the “Motherfuckers” would say, “What a crazy place.” Ira walks in and sees slaves taking abuse from rich whites so they can put food on their table and get their children an education.
He probably sees 50 Cent as some poor Sambo being forced to dance around for rich white people. The irony is, this kind of thinking is actually more racist. To assume blacks are these tired wimps that can’t escape being abused. Fuck NPR an Fuck Ira Glass and Fuck the New York Times and it’s reverse racsist bourgeoise attitude.

I disagree, those jokes about abortions and crack are all racial subtext. I’ve spent a lot of time in Chicago through the years, and can confirm its rep as being very segregated. You can be pretty sure that this is the only time most of those white kids ‘talk’ to black people at all.

Uh, are you fucking kidding? This is fucking crazy. You got these white college kids all drunk and let them scream at the black folk behind the counter (and everyone knows they ain’t jumpin over, so the white kids let it all out). And what’s worse is that you got a lot of white boys yellin shit they would never dare say – to these black women. I guess the white kids take some shit, but the abuse thing is really reversed. They employees can’t leave – they have to take it (if they want that almighty dollar – and when you have few options, what are you gonna do). The white customers can up and leave. The fucking owners shoudl have a bouncer in there, throwing these fools out when they cross the line, but hey, business has doubled, so why mess with success, right? When your greed trumps your morality you’re really just a piece of shit…

Ira Glass is the biggest dick suck ever born, but this place is bad ass. Once saw some drunk cunt order water melon trying to be funny, the girl came around the corner and slapped him. The cunt fell over! Best part was a cop was sitting right there, just laughed at the whole thing. The hot dogs are alright too.

I will not concede that this place is a big scary bastion of hatred but I will agree that the internet, when people can get anonymous, explodes when race becomes a subject. Whenever a streetboner appears that mentions race they get dozens and dozens of comments. People are dying to talk abotu race and nowhere is this more evidence than anonymous forums.
PS my real name is Colin Leavell, and I do graphic design in London, England. I am 29 years old and white and male and I make slightly above middle class salary but I grew up working class in Wales. I lived in America for 14 years including college which was in Maryland.

yeah, i think this place seems pretty fucking fun. The staff can’t leave you are right, and god knows drunk folks (jocks?) at 4am is gnarly, but making it seem all sappy and sad is Ira Glass being a smug turd. These sisters get their digs in. They work in a busy, successful restaurant where they can scream at you if you don’t tip. Many night-shifts are spent dealing with wasted assholes, its probably fun to let off some steam and “joke” with the gross customers.
