Three things happened yesterday.
One: The whole Missbehave thing blew up and had both sides clamoring for attention. Most agreed it’s a little harsh to assault a pregnant woman but the number of people who don’t think it’s natural for a woman to want to be with her newborn infant was disturbing. People also said this whole discussion was a waste of time because it was just a few dumb bitches whining about nothing. That night, Katty Kay and Claire Simpson appeared on Charlie Rose discussing their new book Womenomics. Then they were on The View. They admit women make less than men because women tend to be more interested in being at their daughter’s ballet recital than staying up all night working on a proposal. However, they add, so should everyone else. They argue men work too hard and it’s not productive. I’m inclined to agree with her. France works 4 days a week and they’re economy is in much better shape than ours. They also don’t wage wars so that helps. The big picture is women SHOULD quit their jobs when they have a fucking baby – doye. When they return is open to debate but any sane person would answer “As late as possible.”
Two: JUST A NORMAL GUY got on our last nerve. We know he’s a smart guy pretending to be an idiot but when it smells like shit and looks like shit… We’ll leave it up to you. Should we ban him? He kills every conversation he enters and when other people come to the site they think he’s a real guy. Blognigger’s argument is JANG is now “one of us” so we can’t let him go. We’ll let you be the judge.
Three: Blognigger’s Muslim thread brought up a good point. Namely: How MANY Muslims are extremist? We know it’s a religion of peace and we know Christians can be crazy too so what are the actual figures per capita? Loomis crunched the numbers from here and summed it up with the following comment…

So yeah. The Missbehave thing is not irrelevant, JANG is on thin ice, and Muslims are disproportionately UNpeaceful.

C’mon. Granted, you’ve got some hard numbers proving the Muslim opinion here, but on the American opinion you’re just speculating. I live in Florida and I bet I could find a dozen people in my back yard that didn’t shed a tear over the doctors murder. If the Christian world had 144000 troops occupying two countries by Muslim forces, and 655000 dead as a result ( http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/10/AR2006101001442.html ) we’d have a shitload more religious radicals here who would give up their lives based on some crooked bible interpretations. I think Islam is as backwards as they get; shit, the dudes in my building won’t look at my girl in the face on the elevator because they think she’s less than human, which makes my blood boil.
My point is that Christianity/Islam are never religions of peace when your country is getting the shit bombed out of it. All religions are effective training grounds for killers when the right pressure is applied; we’re just the lucky ones having an internet circle jerk analyzing ‘who’s crazier?’ from our apartments without discussing the motives behind why they’re doing what they’re doing.

So, if you look at the 2001-2007 average, you see that France grew slower than the US. But perhaps les gauloises are weathering the downturn better? Not really; if you look at the 2009 GDP growth map, it indicates that the French economy is contracting faster than our own.
Well, maybe they were wealthy enough to begin with, so even given less relative growth and worse downturns, the French are better off? Nope. US GDP per capita is about 35% higher (using purchasing power parity):

Besides, last summer the French scrapped that mandatory 35-hour week because of its crippling effect on business.
Starting wars is stupid and all, but there’s a good reason the French don’t–they can’t win them. Try talking to a frog about Dien Bien Phu or Algeria. And that was back in the good old days. France hasn’t even had an army capable of an overseas expedition for 30 years. They were and are utterly reliant on the US military for ultimate protection. Without NATO, there’s no way France could afford its luxe lifestyle. So I guess the US could adopt the 35 hour work-weeks and six weeks of vacay, but then we wouldn’t be able to afford the vast armed forces that keep the Euros safe.
