Tony Buzzcock was a Crass kid who grew up hanging out at Dial House and eventually formed his own band, Lack of Knowledge. He later joined the Buzzcocks and produced all their music for about a decade. They recently told each other to fuck off and now Tony works for John Lydon doing everything from telling him he’s too drunk to organizing the back end for the upcoming P.I.L reunion tour.

I wanted this show to be all greatest hits of punk because Tony has a story for just about every band that ever wore a safety pin, but Tony wasn’t having it and insisted we play a bunch of esoteric British tracks he brought himself. I guess it’s better this way because we can play 999 and Stiff Little Fingers any time, but how often are you going to hear about Visage?

My favorite part of this whole show was discussing the origins of punk. Tony concedes that The Ramones going there and playing the 101 club was huge and he doesn’t deny the word “punk” comes from New York but, “It’s not like we were standing there in flares waiting to have our minds blown.”

P.S. He keeps talking about The Rich Kids. It’s the band Glen Matlock started after he was replaced by Sid Vicious in the Sex Pistols.
