Our buddy Matt Morris recently made a documentary called Pickin & Trimmin about a bunch of old dudes in North Carolina who run a barbershop but spend most of their time in the back playing bluegrass with their friends. The whole thing has boring written all over it and when you start the movie you’re first thought is “eject,” but after about five minutes in you realize you are watching the most endearing thing captured on film since the birth of a baby lion. Seeing old dudes waving at cars while they tell you about a guy who plays the banjo “different every time” honestly made me happy to be alive.
They had a screening for it this weekend that was a huge hit with everyone there laughing their asses off and clapping hysterically at the end. The subject of the documentary, Herb Lambert, saw how warmed up the crowd was and plunged the knife in with joke after joke after joke. Holy fucking shit am I ever old.

If it wasn’t for their diet of deep fry, lard and gravy three meals a day, these guys would outlive every one on here. Their values are traditional and real or something, I dunno.

Whilst I appreciate that Dash Snow was a friend of Street Carnage and has apparently died, it wouild have been nice to have been given some context to his life and death instead of a pair of nauseatingly twee eulogies THAT WE CAN’T EVEN FUCKING COMMENT IN. Nice one.

I went to a local bluegrass night expecting some old guys noodling around. Got my face rocked off. Most hardcore bluegrass fans can play as good as the bluegrass icons.
