Sid Vicious’ V-flicking, pogo-dancing, swastika-wearing antics were somehow heroic when I was a dumb 13-year-old. I loved the Alex Cox movie Sid & Nancy so much that I named my two pet puppies after the cursed couple (my dogs also died prematurely, FYI, RIP). I’ve since grown to see Vicious as the moronic smackhead he really was, but I am still morbidly fascinated by his squalid demise. So, to “celebrate” his 30-year death anniversary, here are Five Fun Facts about Sid:
- Sid’s junkie mother confessed that she administered the dose of heroin that killed her son, a fact confirmed by a new documentary. She did it in accordance with her son’s wishes, who didn’t want to go back to prison (where he’d been repeatedly raped).
- Most of Sid’s ashes were spilt by his mother when she tripped over at Heathrow Airport. Doh!
- Sid’s necklace (the Rabbit Padlock and Chain) sold for £20,000 last November.

Sid Vicious was never in prison. He was in jail. There’s a huge difference, but only DAs and criminals seem to know what it is.

P.S. Here we have evidence that it was society that took Vicious out. Who the fuck wouldn’t rather die than go back to prison to be repeatedly gangraped?
