This is rarely the case. Usually, shocking writing is there to bring a new argument into the fold. Provocation is a writer’s obligation. Otherwise you’re just preaching to the converted which is boring – like church.

It’s illegal to discriminate when it comes to HIRING someone but you can SAY anything you want whenever you want, no matter how obscene.
