After several weeks of disappointing sanity, Steve-O’s manic phase is back with a vengeance. First he sends a big long email to his dad where he asks for some respect (dad replies saying he’s proud). Then he CCs us on a message to Lars Ulrich where he tries to get the Metallica drummer to play drums for Steve-O’s rap album. THEN at the peak of this bender, he sends out this video. Wow.

We’re not sure what’s better: The part where almost kicks his neighbor’s door down or the part where he screams at his entire building with a massive pile of one-dollar bills in his hand.
Before the dust could settle, Steve-O’s sister Cindy sends this to the “rad email list.” (Dr. Drew is now on said list.)

Subject: emergency plan — last resort
Hi, everyone.
I just watched the “neighbor war” footage of Steve, and I know how hard it is to reason with him right now. It also appears, from the time stamps on his many e-mails, that he hasn’t slept much in the past 48 hours.
Hopefully, this manic phase will peak soon, then he’ll have a crying jag, sleep for a week straight, and be able to think a lot more clearly. But it’s always possible, particularly when he’s not sleeping, that he’ll have a significant psychotic episode and get really delusional (thinking he’s God, wanting to build a time machine, etc.), hearing voices (ex. his “supernatural friends”) and hallucinating.
I need you guys to focus on keeping him safe. Please. And if that reaches the point of staging an intervention or taking him to an ER, then please do it.
Obviously, that’s a last resort. As you saw, when the cops came, Steve can “turn it on” and be really logical for brief periods of time. That means there’s no chance a doctor will keep him against his will once he’s stabilized.
In an emergency, though, please take him to Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena. When things got really bad last summer, Dad and I reached out to Dr. Drew, who you might know is the Medical Director for Chemical Dependency at Las Encinas Hospital. We determined that it is probably the best place to deal with Steve’s combination of psychology and chemical dependency.
Unfortunately, nothing is going to work unless Steve wants to get better. And he’s more likely to be willing to give it a try when he’s in the “depressed” phase of the bipolar cycle.
But if you get a chance, pitch it as a vacation from stress. That’s how Steve was glorifying going to jail just a couple of days ago. The web site for “The Villas” in the Aurora Las Encinas Hospital show that it’s got green grass, a large pool and tennis courts, in addition to heavy duty medical credentials with the hospital next door. If he’s having any physical discomfort or pain — they can give him the full medical work-up on his heart, acid reflux and neurology. It’s a one-stop shop.
Here’s the link: Las Encinas Hospital – Aurora Behavioral Health Care. Hopefully you remember how to get there from the ill-fated videotaped shrink session, but just in case, the hospital is19.25 miles from the intersection of Hollywood and Highland.
Here are the MapQuest directions: Driving Directions from Hollywood Blvd & N Highland Ave, Los Angeles, CA to Las Encinas Hospital, 2900 E Del Mar Blvd, Pasade..
Please know that getting help and starting some kind of medication won’t kill Steve’s creativity. He has done most of his best work when he was lucid — in between the manic episodes, not during them. Also remember that he doesn’t mean half of the angry, awful stuff he’s saying, and that the real “sweetheart” Steve is in there somewhere under all of the rage and volatility.
Hang in there, guys, and feel free to call any time. My thoughts are with you all,
Love,
– Cindy

    Gavin

You, my friend, are a fucking douchebag.

    Pathetic vulture, I say.

  2. EDB Says:

    “Who’s Johnny?” she said
And smiled in her special way
    “Johnny” she said
    “You know I love you”
    “Who’s Johnny?” she said
And tried to look the other way
    Her eyes gave her away

  3. Dear Molly Says:

The thing about Gavin is he’s actually a taco. Crunchy shell filled with meat, lettuce, cheese, maybe some onions, a few tomatoes, maybe a splash of salsa, and a touch of greasy Mexican butt scratch flakes and/or pubes.

  4. phillip Says:

man, publishing this on your website for everyone to see is pretty low. you have become defamer.

  5. nup Says:

nope i dont think its pretty low to publish this on your website at all. if the dudes crazy and he’s staying crazy then he knows damn well what he’s doing.
steve-o is a grown up who makes his own decisions.
he’s highly visible, he stays highly visible, what the fuck are you going to do about it??

if he’d gone into hiding in a buddhist retreat and became a big fat rehab anti-depressant wreck of man and really needed the privacy then thatd be low, but this shit is fine.

show both sides of the story i say.

  6. discretion Says:

I know its fun to be in Steve-O’s inner circle, even if its a joke. Its probably really hilarious and interesting to your mutual pals, but use some discretion guy, sheesh. What if someone in your family was manic, bipolar, mentally ill, and some grub with a blog and first hand access to your insanity was publishing your emails for a bunch of vultures (like us) to feed on?

You say that he’s an adult and makes his own decisions. If he’s manic he can’t control himself during a fit, which seems to be when he’s sending you this crazy bullshit that you’ve been posting.

You’re obviously a clever, funny and extremely creative dude (I loved Vice when you were there and followed you here), but this is the kind of thing that makes all of that obsolete because its so pointless, self-indulgent, and just plain slimy.

His sister is asking for his ‘friends’ on his ‘rad email list’ for help because they are worried about his safety, so this seems pretty unecessary. Just try to imagine if you were born into his family and HAD to deal with this. Kind of brutal.

Its okay if you think he’s a joke, but why cant you keep that between you and your friends? Its not really that scandalous or hilarious, at least not enough for you to be showing your ass over.

Steve-O sucks. His emails are obnoxious, but its even MORE embarassing that you’re passing them along. Seriously, its weird that you’re so involved in bringing a loser like him down further (wait… is that even possible)? I canNOT believe I’m defending Steve-O. Ew.

    Disappointing stuff dude.

  7. GRRRRRR! Says:

ummmm!Steve-o is famous for being in a TV show about getting drunk and playing fucked up pranks on people, sooo,If this is a joke…HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!If it’s not and he’s bipolar!Well it made him rich and famous so Fuck It!!My mom has bipolar effective disorder and all that is 37 pills a day ,a house that smells like old meat, and the weirdest 3.00am phone calls for anyone that she can dial.I congradulate his sucess despite this disorder that destroys 1000’s of people’s lives.(ps bipolar folk make some fucking great art)

  8. GRRRRRR! Says:

my mom doesnt care about steve o

  9. GRRRRRR! Says:

I still think he sucks though!

  10. Barbara's Bush Says:

Really people, Steve-O exposes himself publicly for a living. He wants the world on his “rad email list!”
And he probs just takes too many drugs and has too much fun (the lows that follow the highs), that will make you “crazy” just like Britney, bitch.

  11. Gavin Says:

I would leave Steve-O alone if I could but he’d never forgive me.

  12. twat lover Says:

    you’re a fucking twat.

  13. ju Says:

You know what I do when something happens in my life which I’d like to be discreet about? I make it a point to NOT write it down and send it to all of my acquaintances.
    Je—llo!
    Steve-O loves this!

  14. Stoops Jimbs Says:

look at all these losers chiding gavin for having the generosity to share this funny stuff with us. chiding him on behalf of steve-o who basically is a clown owned by MTV for the public good entertainment. you crybabies go back to that other website and look at the poor hoes of syria fashion spread malarkey as is your wont

  15. teets Says:

    Steve-o is retarded.

  16. phillip Says:

it’s not steve that you’re hurting. it’s his family. imagine the day your kid has a complete nervous breakdown or suffers from mental illness. it’s terrifying. what would you do if somebody published your cry-for-help letter on a website like this? it’s kind of cruel.

  17. Jules Says:

Steve-O would be alright if he stopped taking drugs, stopped jerking off, and stopped doing most of the other bad stuff he does, except for drinking (drinking is fine).

That’s how I overcame a similar bipolar disorder. Leaving LA, maybe moving to NY also helps to.

  18. Jules Says:

basically when you are bipolar, you are way more sensitive to things that normal people do i.e. coffee, weed, cigs, caffeine, drugs, etc…

But you’re also more sensitive to finding the quirks and specialties in life and society–so it helps you be creative.

  19. twat lover Says:

no serioulsly, gavin, you’re a twat cunt fag lip. you fuckin figure it out smarty pants.

  20. reika Says:

steve-o is icing on some gavin cake. i fucking love it.

gavin, thanks for the content. it’s good to see steve-o is doing well.
