NOTE BIEN: DON’T STOP THIS OR TRY TO FAST FORWARD AFTER THE LINK APPEARS IN iTUNES OR IT GOES BACK TO THE BEGINNING. JUST LET IT PLAY AND FUCK OFF (sorry) “LET IT BE.”
So here’s our show with East Village Radio from the other day. It was for their “On the Fly” segment where they let random losers come in and do a show. In this case, the losers were two guys who failed their first audition by being too mean to people.
We promised to be nice this time so they said, “Maybe” and gave us another chance. The pitch was we’d find people on the street, talk to them about random shit, and then play a song that related to the topic. Problem was, we couldn’t get anyone to talk to us. Junkies ruined talking to strangers with their stupid bullshit about needing bus fare and now nobody has a spare second. Even if the junkies have microphones and a studio and are obviously not junkies.
THE SET UP SET
(We needed to get reacquainted with the technology so the first three songs are just time killers)
Dirty Projectors “Stillness is the Move”
Lars Fredereriksen & the Bastards “The Viking”
Bruce Springsteen “Atlantic City”
Then we talked to Go-Go who does the reggae show at EVR. She told us what school supply she liked so we went into…
BACK TO SCHOOL SET
The Replacements “Fuck School”
Void “My Rules”
Descendents “I’m not a Loser”
The Who “Happy Jack”
It was raining AGAIN and being well into July, this is starting to get Chronicles of ridic so we went into some bummer jams.
SAD SET
Carole King “Crying in the Rain”
Bad Brains (live) “Pay to Cum”
Petula Clark “The Look of Love”
We fucked up after this part and played music while giving all the important links for EVR which didn’t help things. Derrick turned it all around by jamming in some classic Canadian hardcore which then led to a cheesy hip hop set (our favorite within the genre).
PARTY SET
NOmeansno “Joy”
Wale feat Lady Gaga “Chillin” (this song rules but I played it from YouTube so it sounds like it’s coming from inside an orange)
After this we had several failed attempts to get someone to talk. Just when things were looking really bleak, some soft-faced nice guy with a cuddly beard showed up and asked us what’s up. He looked really familiar so I assumed it was a buddy of Derrick’s whom I had met a few times. The last time this happened was when I thought Snake from Degrassi was a buddy I went to Junior High with. This is a common mistake. Homer Simpson thinks every episode of Happy Days happened to him.
You see, to the human brain, celebrities look exactly like a good friend of yours’ friend. You’ve seen them a bunch of times but you don’t really know them (Side note: Derrick is actually buddies with that Snake dude so it was a double mind fuck when I realized who he was).
ONE SONG RAP SET
Maino “All the Above”
After this one song interlude we introduce our new guest before realizing clue he was
Paul Kinsey from Mad Men. JACKPOT. Right when we were bumming about no guests a fucking superstar walks into our lives. I mean, he’s basically as big as AJ from The Sopranos right? Secondary character in the biggest show in the country and all that? (I sound like I’m being sarcastic here but I’m not.)
CRACK SET
Appalonia 6 “Sex Shooter” (this songs reeks of rich crackheads fucking)
Here we rap to the Mad Men man about the differences between New York and LA. His contention is you only go to LA when you have a huge job lined up and you’re going to be working your ass off all day. You don’t GO there to get a job.
NYC SET
The Demics “News York City”
Nina Hagen “Wir Leben Immer Noch”

After Kinsey graced us with his presence it was all smooth sailing. We talked to an East Asian traffic cop who had just given me a $65 ticket. We played him Nusrat as a way of saying “no beef” because it was my fault. I left the Munimeter ticket upside down so he had no choice. That’s fair. I still would like to rip out his entrails however.
TRAFFIC COP SET
Nusrat Fatuh Ali Kahn & Massive Attack “Mustah Mustah”
Lil Kim “Big Mama Thang”

Derrick then proved to this guy wearing sandals in NYC is like having sex without a condom.
FUCKING SET
Micachu and the Shapes “Lip”
Matt and Kim “Daylight”
Ninjasonik “Daylight”
Then we talked to some girl calling her drug dealer and gave her
DRUGS SET
Peter Tosh “Legalize It”
Boogie Down Production “Illegal Business”
Illinois “Solidier of Fortune”
Fear “I Love Living In The City”
Grave Concern “Dig it Daddy O”
Then Nick from Islands showed up and told us where to find a brand new single from them. We decided to go have a beer with him and end the show because it was over anyway.
GOODBYE SET
Islands “No You Don’t”
Pat Boone “Crazy Train”
Our only regret was we didn’t get to Au Revoir Simone’s “Shadows” so here it is.
