This has become recent scandal in the Middle East. Not because the U.S. Army officially burned bibles, but because some Christians soldiers dared to nefariously “plot” the distribution of the scriptures they hold sacred. Now it’s no secret there are deeply religious members in the military of Christian denominations, but what rather irks me is how the Army is going about it. The military scrambles around to save face by announcing they have destroyed bibles that were delivered to individual soldiers in Afghanistan. This was to prevent these SADISTIC EVANGELICALS on patrol from distributing them to the local Afghani populace which would have been traumatizing to their delicate Muslim minds (that’s not if the decades of warfare and famine hasn’t gotten to them already). The higher up brass has even made public apologies denouncing (and disciplining) these Christian extremists who tried to pull this shit off.
That’s fine, I am all for separation of church and state, and for those who don’t simply write me off know I am not a religious person in ANY sense of the word. I believe outside a church service, people in uniform should not be going around telling others about how they are down with Jesus, Satan, Karl Marx or WHOEVER the fuck they wanna suck off as a weak minded crutch.
Then again, I have not heard people of the Left getting angry over the Army burning a stack of Bibles, but when one idiot in the military uses a Koran for target practice; it leads to a shit storm leading elitist liberal scum demanding complete appeasement for the religion they are most “tolerant” of and are completely pussy to ever criticize.
Of course, liberals will ceaselessly argue that military men are all conspiring to convert the rest of the world to Christianity because the “War on Terror” no matter whatever good we do is simply a crusade for Jesus and oil.
I can inculcate them with various examples how that’s not exactly case, and show these guys we are still fighting the same assholes who throw acid in little girls’ faces who are simply trying to learn how to read. Too bad they are too full of shit to step off their own warped indignant point of view about the military.
As far as I’m concerned about this whole politically correct crack down in the armed forces for Muslims, I say fuck ‘em and bring it on. At this point, why not GO OUT OF THE WAY to antagonize the rest of the Muslim world?

My work requires me to travel in the middle east and south asia, so unlike Mike Litoris, I’ve actually been to these places and seen what goes on there. Mike Litoris is full of shit. Hindu extremists play a big political role in India. My work has an office in Gujarat state, where conservative Hindus run the show; they are not insignificant outside Gujarat. We also have an office in Pakistan. The uprising in Swat has a lot more to do with oligarchic landownership and ethnic discrimination than Islam. In any case, the Muslim army of Pakistan is killing Muslim civilians on the advice of the U.S. Israel, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, these are all states based on religion and in my opinion (not the opinion of my employer obviously) should all be dismantled. There is a movement in Israel to disenfranchise any citizen who denies that Israel is a state specifically for Jews. So I guess they aren’t as secular and awesomely scientific as Mike Litoris thinks.
I’ve traveled throughout the Arab and Muslim world, to places where Mike Litoris would be screaming and fainting like a little bitch, and guess what? Arabs and Muslims love Americans, this is pretty much uniform. Months of travel and work there for me, as an avowed atheist, and I’m still alive.

As you’re so riled up about my identity, for the sake of keeping my job, i think i’ll remain secret, thanks. You can call bullshit if you want, but there are literally tens of thousands of americans living, working and studying in the muslim world, from morocco to indonesia. They and i are/were in no greater danger abroad than at home; most muslim countries are much safer than America thanks to repressive and brutal security apparatuses that are trained by America (i’m not complaining). If you think that any American reporting a positive experience from living and working abroad needs to supply some kind of credential, then you’re probably more interested in having a little bitch-fit about muslims than anything else. If you don’t believe me, go ask any of the other thousands of people. (obviously iraq and afghanistan are big exceptions, and i wouldn’t work in algeria either, but there are a lot more factors at play than just “damn crazy muslims”)

Catholic priests have to spend 6- 8 years in the seminary and they actually have to have a Master’s degree to practice as an official priest.
Not sure about this, but I’m pretty sure it’s the only religion in the world that has this educational requirement.

Catholics have the papacy as a unified guiding force, but other than that there are plenty of big and small groups (episcopal, lutheran, presbyterian, methodist) that, you know, think that their way is the best. They are not unified. In any case, why aren’t you signing up to be a missionary? it’s not an intellectual argument. that would be something like “secularize them” rather than “tell them to believe in a different mythical being who inhabits the clouds.”

Maybe you have heard of this thing called “outsourcing” that is taking all the hard-working americans’ jobs? Companies do send people to train (and retrain and rereretrain) the indian employees. Gujaratis are less expensive than dudes in Bangalore, but this is because gujaratis are not as highly educated and sometimes the cheapness is outweighed by the fact that people like me get sent back again and again to make sure they do it right this time. in any case, it’s a conservative hindu spot, muslims live in ghettos, and lots of places prohibit alcohol based on hindu practices, NOT muslim. a lot of gujaratis have never eaten meat because of hinduism.
