When i was a kid we’d go to SLC to visit family. Whenever we stayed in a hotel I’d get an increased need for masturbation. I suspect it was something to do with the unfamiliar environs. part time punks reunited both “a certain ratio” and “pylon” for one of their festivals. so, yeah…those dudes are pretty cool. plus they had “spectrum” with full psychedelic light show one sunday.
sunday nights at cinespace in hollywood can be fun. usually they have at least one good band and one good dj. or if you want a cool little diver that isn’t over-hyped you can hit up Crane’s Hollywood Tavern on el centro. the owner, darren crane, is hella cool and keeps a real nice vibe flowing up in that joint.
in san francisco, on the other hand, i am out of the loop. but i’ve had some pretty amazing coked out nights at a bar call “Pops” on 24th and bryant. deep mission. went there quite a bit one summer when i was living in my van like a scuzzy mission trog. hey…no rent!

I found out about that too late. I was so pissed. Pylon is fucking rad, and that was the first time A Certain Ratio played in the US in 23 years.
I live a couple blocks from Cinespace so I’ll check it out on Sunday next time. Thursdays at the Edison are rad too.
