Been pulling all nighters working on this Movie Watching World Champoinship doc we did with Decon. They insist on calling it “A Million in the Morning” because we were so fried after staying up for 3 days, that’s what time we thought it was, but I’m not into that title at all. I like kooky content framed in conservative ways. Like, you make the movie over the top but the title is “The Movie Watching World Championships: 127 Hours, 88 Movies,” right? Who is going to know what the fuck a million in the morning means? I don’t even know what it means and I said it. Anyway, here’s some outtakes…

We went to interview a guy who turned out to be in the Witness Protection program so we ratted him out to the mob.

Sleep deprivation occasionally gives you incredible clarity. Towards the end of the competition I was able to mathematically prove we don’t exist. We’re going to animate this part with cartoons.

The Netflix – Decon – Street Carnage Films – documentary of the World Movie Watching Championships is finally done. After sleeping about 17 hours in a row, I still feel like shit.
It’s not just the lack of sleep you need to recover from. There’s the detoxing, the cold, the broken finger, pulled muscles and 5 days of riffing with strangers AKA swimming with anvils. And you know what else? I miss our crew. We called ourselves Skeleton Crew after seeing a Battle of the Bands from 1985 in the video monitoring room and the name was then abbreviated to Ske’ Crew. The bro bonding that goes on after 5 days of no sleep borders on homo.

In the last update we showed you the trailer for the whole thing. It’s basically 5 days of watching about 80 movies non-stop. You can’t look away and you can’t sleep. Contestants get a 10 minute break between movies and the prize was $10,000. Only two contestants made it to the end: a German named Claudia and a Sri Lankan / Canadian named Suresh. The rest were removed for very long blinks. That’s how you go out. You are sitting, watching the screen, have a blink, next thing you know there’s a judge holding your shoulder and saying, “It’s time.” None of the contestants we talked to even really knew they fell asleep.

Most thought Cheryl here was going to make it to the end. She held the record back in 2003 when it was only around 60 hours which is when she fell asleep this year.

Just to be clear – we napped. We looked away from the TV and we went for coffee and did whatever we wanted. Our feat does not compare with the winners but we still slept less than any doctor in ER or any soldier in WWII.

I terrorized Richard Simmons with energy drink cocktails he refused to go near.

This is a sweet angel named Jose who was easily the craziest one in the bunch. He poured buckets of ice down his pants but would occasionally take them out and put them in a cup if he had to get up. I did not know this. I thought it was just a cup of ice.

After getting more R.E.M. than Michael Stipe, I was awoken and told to go talk to Jerry who just bailed. It was hard to give one tenth of one shit. All I could think about was returning to the ground.

Been documenting this Movie Watching World Championship and losing my fucking mind. So far six of the eight contestants have fallen asleep. Richard Simmons came by and didn’t want to talk about his old band and Young Frankenstein came by to watch Young Frankenstein.

A guy from Texas dropped out after he hallucinated a beagle climbing a plant and the other 5 were disqualified after their blinks lasted a bunch of seconds (they thought they just blinked – they didn’t, they fell asleep – it’s basically the same as fainting).

I’m going to be spending the next week or so in Times Square hosting this movie-watching championship. Five people from all over the world are going to try to beat the world record and stay up for 6 days watching movies. I am going to fuck with them until they fall asleep from exhaustion.
